Shaped nappies are essentially the inside bit of a two-part nappy system. They are made of terry, fleece or a combination of the two and fasten with velcro/aplix or poppers. They require a separate waterproof wrap to keep the wet in.
These are all 'sized' nappies which means you'll need to buy 2 or possibly 3 sizes to get frm newborn to potty trained. Although this is a more costly option than using 'birth to potty' nappies the advatages include better fitting nappies and less bulk on newborn babies.

This is a truly revolutionary nappy, made from an amazing new synthetic micro-terry fabric that's super absorbent, quicker to dry than cotton, slim line and anti-bacterial - need we say more!
Not only that, the design is pretty good too! Available in two sizes, both are adjustable to fit a really big weight range - the size 1 nappy will fit a small newborn and last up to around 18lb and the size 2 nappy can be used from around 10lb if required, is reasonably slimline even from birth and will fit right through to potty training (around 40lb).
It's also lined with a unique three-quarter fleece 'pocket liner' which contains a pop-in booster. The fact that the liner only covers three quarters of the nappy means that the front and 'wings' can be tucked neatly inside the fleece to make either size nappy smaller so that the size 1 will fit a tiny newborn and the size 2 can be used from around 10lb without excessive bulk...
In addition the new fabric stays soft even in hard water and is twice as absorbent as traditional terry towelling. If there is a disadvantage with micro-terry it's that it's synthetic (100% polyester) so not as breathable and more likely to be warm in hot weather and also that it attracts fluff and lint in the washing machine and Velcro/Aplix will stick to it in the wash (we've got several micro-terry nappies in our personal collection and the jury is still out on the longevity of the fabric, not in terms of performance but appearance!)
Drying times vary according to facilities as usual. This nappy comes out of the machine almost dry as the process of spinning removes a huge percentage of the water from it and a quick tumble will 'finish it off', however, our experience of micro-terry nappies is that they can take a while to completely dry if line/air dried from the washing machine without good air circulation - it certainly helps if you've got a very effective spin cycle on your washing machine but they can be a little frustrating when they feel 'almost dry' for a fair while after hanging out!
Having said that, if you've got hard water and no drier these will never feel like cardboard and the design is truly versatile.
This nappy requires a nappi nippa or pin to fasten. See below for popper fastening version
