Pocket style nappies are a kind of halfway house between all-in-ones and shaped nappies. A waterproof, lined wrap style nappy that has an integral pocket which is then stuffed with absorbent material to the level required.
Great for those that don't have a tumble drier as the stuffing is removed for washing so you effectively have a flat nappy and a wrap to dry separately.
Stuffing
You can use anything absorbent to stuff a pocket nappy, it's about getting the balance between absorbency and bulk right for your circumstances. Here are some options:
Terry square - pad folded (very absorbent but bulky)
Prefold (absorbent, fairly bulky)
Shaped terry pocket nappy insert (medium absorbency, medium bulk)
Hemp pocket nappy insert (absorbent, slim)
Microfibre cloths (medium absorbency, very slim)

thirsties - Duo Diaper
Brand new from Thirsties this is a really great nappy option for all round performance and versatility.
It comes in just two sizes to fit from birth to potty making it economical and getting over the biggest problems associated with One Size nappies - namely that they are huge on a newborn baby and often outgrown by chunky toddlers. With two sizes the size One can be small enough to be a great fit on a newborn and last through the tricky first few months of sudden growth spurts coupled with skinny legs and pot-bellies and then the size Two can take over once the growth trajectory has evened out and the main priority is control over absorbency and reliability.
The nappy has a waterproof PUL outer which uses the same great tried and tested features of the Thirsties original and 'Duo' wraps, including leg gussets, gentle elastic, cross over Aplix tabs and an adjustable rise fastened with reliable poppers.
The Duo Diaper comes with a 7 layer insert. The top two layers are microfibre and attach to a really absorbent 5 layer hemp jersey insert with poppers so you can use them independently - for example, you may want to use the microfibre insert on its own for a newborn when absorbency is not the priority.
The PUL outer has a microfleece inner 'sleeve' which forms the pocket for stuffing but is open at both ends making it easy to adjust the stuffing and - more importantly - easy to remove it from either end when the nappy is soiled! No more having to deal with a pocket opening that has been caught in the cross-fire (can you tell that we like this feature a lot!!) The fleece inner also acts as a stay-dry barrier and will never end up rough or crunchy in hard water either.
Two sizes fit from 6lb to 40lb
Each size has 3 rows of poppers to adjust the length of the rise so each size is really three sizes in one!
