Real Nappy Week 2012!
Like you, we're very keen to ensure that everything we do has the minimum environmental footprint, and here's some of the things we've been doing to work towards being as green as possible...

The products we stock are all aimed at helping you to bring up baby in as eco-friendly a way as is possible, hence the emphasis on reusable nappies, reusable baby wipes, natural toiletries and even eco-menstrual products for mum. Our essential oils are organically grown, and toiletries are free from pthalates and parabens.

Every so often there is a debate about whether reusable nappies are really better for the environment than disposables. It seems to me to be a matter of common sense. With the average baby having around 4 - 5,000 nappy changes before toilet training, you'll get through up to 5,000 disposable nappies, or about 20-40 reusable ones. If you use your reusable nappies on 2 children, the comparison is even more stark. I simply cannot comprehend how the environmental impact of 40 reusable nappies can come close to the environmental impact of around 10,000 disposables. Of course you can also influence the environmental footprint of your own nappy use, taking simple steps like washing at lower temperatures, having an A rated washing machine, and air drying whenever possible.

Other ways we keep it green...

All packaging used is either biodegradable or recyclable. Larger orders are sent out in boxes which are re-used from deliveries we've received. We are also given boxes for re-use by our local village shop - which conveniently houses the post office. Bubble wrap and other packaging is all reclaimed from local businesses. All paper used is recycled.

We've chosen to support our local village post office by posting our parcels there, rather than having a daily pickup. We're aware that having a large local customer putting a high volume of parcels through is helpful in justifying the existence of this valued local facility, although we do sometimes cause a little queue... Happily the owners are avid fans of cloth nappies too and regularly test new products for me...

We now shop almost exclusively for stationary and office products with The Green Stationary Company - and as they're not just for trade, you can use them too - www.greenstat.co.uk. We were amazed to discover that they work out cheaper than some better known websites, the service has always been good, and the products are eco-friendly.
